Några outisdertonåringar i Denver får en sommarkväll 1987 reda på att The Smiths har splittrats, nyheter lika illa som ett dödsbud. För att hedra deras minne och sörja deras avslut bestämmer de sig för att festa till det rejält, men Dean har en ännu bättre plan för hur de ska hylla sina stora idoler – genom att ta över den lokala radiostationen och spela The Smiths för hela Colorado.
